Family Car, Acrylic on shaped board, 36” x 78”, 2012
During the 1980’s, the Ford Taurus was one of the most popular family cars. It was economical and driven by many. It typified family. Contrasting that nice, safe environment is a transgender individual dressing up in a wedding dress! Garry is a business owner of Hamilton Jewellers whom I met during art crawl when I had my studio on James Street. He very kindly modelled for me in his home where he revealed “The Dutchess” and her demonstrative attire. He had his make-up and nails done for the occasion. The negative social behaviour of cross dressing is illustrated in a car which questions the very definition of family.
